Midnight in Tokyo 4 - Sketches of Ambient Kayo from Japan (1977-1999)

Studio Mule have Tsunaki Kadowaki from Kyoto's Meditations record shop compile the fourth edition of what is honestly one of if not the best running compilation series of Japanese music. Strongly recommend anyone to go hunt down the previous records in this series (1-3) - Yes there are a number of  of great Japanese jazz, funk, ambient and city pop comps recently but these are really a cut above. This is in ambient and in some ways oddball pop (kayo) territory, as the title suggests. It's out there, cosmic in parts, but like all good comps faces you down with a sound that you may not have heard before. Check E.S Island "Yumefurin" to get the idea. Ace.
